Week 5

Hello!! All is well with the team at Djigui. This week we have done a lot.
Firstly we have continued providing our English, French and IT lessons to our members. It has been particularly interesting for us, as volunteers, to put into practice the knowledge that we learnt at school. In addition we have created a menu of the week to sell at our kiosk. This week : Chilli de tokan , a delicious Mexican recipe.

Tokan Chilli with flavoured rice.

We also paid a visit to the National Office of Water and Sanitation (ONEA in French), in order to talk to those in charge of catering about our work at Djigui Espoir - our products and aims. As we are looking for new clients for the association, we were pleasantly surprised to find three restaurants on-site, each of which expressed an interest in Djigui’s products.

This week we were visited by USADF, an American foundation and one of Djigui‘s partners. With the visit scheduled for Thursday, Madame Toe, or ‘Tantie,’ held a three-hour meeting in order to give everyone an overview of USADF’s project. The morning of the visit, we helped to clean rooms, benches and arrange chairs and tables. The visit didn’t take long - just 30 minutes.

At the end of the week, we organised a fundraising event: a three-course dinner in order to collect money for Djigui Espoir. Both the UK and the national volunteers attended and we had the pleasure of welcoming Emmanuel, the financial administrator of IS Mali. The money raised (35.000Fcfa or £47) will go towards buying chairs, tables and a parasol for the kiosk. We hope that this will attract more customers.
